EC President Der Leyen Vows To Continue Supporting Ukraine

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Oct 28 (KUNA) -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday affirmed that the European Union would continue to support Ukraine.
Der Leyen, speaking to reporters after a meeting of the northern member states of the European Union held in the Swedish capital Stockholm, indicated that an accord might be reached among the European stakeholders on using frozen Russian assets to fund military support for Ukraine by the yearend.
The message to Russia is very clear, Europe will continue to back Ukraine for as long as it takes, Der Leyen said.
The EC is seeking to establish a mechanism for sustainable funding for Ukraine in the coming two years, she added.
Her remarks coincided with reports that the EC was seeking to work out a final deal by December on a funding mechanism based on the frozen Russian assets, estimated at euro 200 billion, bulk of which are held by Belgium. (end)
