Russian air defenses repel overnight Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow

(MENAFN) Russian air defenses successfully intercepted over 30 Ukrainian drones in a large-scale overnight assault on Moscow, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported.

In posts shared late Sunday into early Monday, Sobyanin stated that the raid involved at least 37 drones. He noted that emergency services were active at the locations where debris landed but did not provide information regarding casualties or damage.

Explosions were reportedly heard in several suburban towns south and southeast of Moscow, including Ramensky District, Podolsk, Klimovsk, Domodedovo, Kolomna, and Troitsk, according to local sources. No injuries or damage on the ground have been confirmed.

Authorities temporarily restricted flights at Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports, situated approximately 40 kilometers from the city, as a precautionary measure.

Moscow experienced a smaller drone attack on Saturday involving seven drones. Ukraine has frequently carried out long-range drone strikes deep into Russian territory, targeting energy facilities, infrastructure, and residential areas, with Moscow condemning these actions as “acts of terrorism.”
