Netanyahu Admits Breaching of Ceasefire
(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proudly declared on Monday that his military had dropped 153 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip the previous day, effectively acknowledging a breach of the ceasefire agreement.
His comments came during the start of the Knesset’s winter session, where opposition lawmakers repeatedly interrupted him, criticizing his government’s actions and its role in prolonging the ongoing war in Gaza.
"During the ceasefire, two soldiers fell… We struck them with 153 tons of bombs and attacked dozens of targets across the Gaza Strip," Netanyahu stated, addressing the disruptions from opposing politicians.
According to the Gaza government media office, Israeli forces have violated the ceasefire agreement 80 times since it was implemented on October 10, under the terms of a US-brokered deal.
These violations have led to the deaths of 97 Palestinians, with 44 of those fatalities occurring on Sunday alone. Additionally, 230 others have been wounded in these attacks.
The Israeli government claimed that Hamas forces had targeted its troops in Rafah, a southern city in Gaza.
However, the Palestinian group has firmly denied these accusations and reiterated its commitment to the ceasefire.
The ceasefire deal, brokered on October 10, followed a phased plan introduced by US President Donald Trump.
The first phase of the plan involved the exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
The broader strategy also includes the reconstruction of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing body to replace Hamas.
