Erdogan Congratulates Tufan Erhurman on TRNC Victory

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended his congratulations to Tufan Erhurman, the head of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), who emerged victorious in the presidential election held on Sunday in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), according to unofficial tallies.

In a message shared on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, Erdogan expressed his hope that the election outcome would bring advantages to both nations and the wider region.

He remarked, “This election once again demonstrated the TRNC’s democratic maturity and reflected the will of our Turkish Cypriot brothers at the ballot box. Türkiye will continue to defend the TRNC’s sovereign rights and interests, together with the Turkish Cypriot people, on every platform.”

The unofficial results provided by the TRNC Supreme Election Council indicated that Erhurman secured 62.76% of the votes, surpassing the independent candidate and current President Ersin Tatar, who garnered 35.81%.

Additionally, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz commended the election results, emphasizing that the vote reaffirmed the political sophistication of the TRNC and its populace.

Yilmaz stated, “The elections have once again shown the maturity of the TRNC as both a state and an electorate. As the motherland and guarantor country, we will continue to stand firmly by the TRNC and the Turkish Cypriot people.”

In a separate release, the Turkish Foreign Ministry congratulated Erhurman, assuring that Türkiye, as the “motherland and guarantor,” will persist in supporting initiatives aimed at promoting the prosperity and progress of the Turkish Cypriot community “within the framework of its responsibilities.”
