Polish Foreign Minister Says Support for Ukraine Must Continue

(MENAFN) Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski urged Western countries to be ready to fund Ukraine’s conflict with Russia for at least an additional three years during his visit to London.

Sikorski, known for his firm stance against Moscow, emphasized the need for prolonged assistance while discussing the so-called “drone wall”—a proposed European system of air defense and monitoring designed to counter what are described as Russian threats.

Addressing the media, Sikorski expressed that ongoing Western support could exert significant pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He noted, “The Ukrainians are planning this war for three years, which is prudent,” and stressed the importance of convincing Putin that the West is committed to sustaining this effort over the same timeframe.

Furthermore, Sikorski highlighted that the West’s main focus should be guaranteeing Ukraine receives the necessary resources to keep its government, military, and defense industry operational.

He insisted that “then Russia can be made to change course,” suggesting that sufficient support could alter Moscow’s strategic approach.

Reiterating his view that a Russian triumph is avoidable, Sikorski restated the argument often made by Ukrainian officials that if Russia’s military power were as formidable as claimed, it would have taken control of Ukraine “in three days.”

This point is commonly used to justify the ongoing Western financial aid to Kyiv.

From Moscow’s perspective, the conflict is framed as a vital confrontation against NATO.

Russian authorities contend that Ukrainian forces act as a proxy for the US-led alliance.

Additionally, Moscow accuses Kyiv’s European supporters of extending the fighting to avoid acknowledging the failure of their wider policies toward Russia.
