UK Posts 4.8 Percent Rise in Jobless Rate


(MENAFN) The UK's unemployment rate climbed to 4.8% during the June to August period, according to the latest data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on Tuesday.

This marks an increase from 4.7% in the May-to-June window and a notable rise from 4.1% recorded in the same quarter last year, the ONS figures revealed.

By the end of August, approximately 1.7 million individuals were officially unemployed across the country.

Additionally, the economic inactivity rate remained high, estimated at 21% for June through August, the ONS noted.

In terms of employment trends, the number of payrolled employees in the UK dropped by 93,000—or 0.3%—compared to August last year, though it did see a modest rise of 10,000 from the previous month.
