(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan took part in a landmark event on Monday — a ceremonial signing of a declaration of intent aimed at halting the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The event was hosted in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where Erdogan traveled upon the invitation of both his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and US President Donald Trump.

Before the formal proceedings commenced, Erdogan was received by President Trump at the International Convention Center.

During this brief encounter, the two leaders exchanged pleasantries and engaged in a short conversation, after which they posed together for a commemorative photo.

As dignitaries from various nations began to arrive, the ceremony officially got underway. President Trump opened the event with a keynote speech, welcoming the assembled global representatives.

Shortly afterward, a symbolic group photo — commonly referred to as the "family photo" — was taken, capturing the leaders of the participating countries.

The pivotal moment of the event came when Erdogan, President Trump, President Sisi, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani collectively endorsed the agreement.

The signing marked a significant diplomatic gesture toward peace in the region.

The agreement stated: “We seek tolerance, dignity, and equal opportunity,” emphasizing a shared commitment to a future in which individuals from all backgrounds can live with peace, safety, and economic stability.

The document continued: “We pursue a holistic vision of peace, security, and collective prosperity, rooted in mutual respect and a sense of shared destiny,” affirming the collaborative progress made in achieving long-term peace in the Gaza Strip and promoting cooperative relations between Israel and neighboring countries.
