FSB detains Russian citizen working for Ukraine

(MENAFN) Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has arrested a man in the Moscow Region who is suspected of working with Ukrainian intelligence, the agency announced on Wednesday.

According to officials, the detainee — a Russian national in his mid-20s — allegedly began cooperating with Ukrainian operatives after offering his services in September 2023. His reported activities included gathering intelligence on a military site in Altay Region, setting a vehicle on fire, and building two improvised explosive devices (IEDs). One of the bombs was said to have been used to destroy a car belonging to a Russian military service member in Naro-Fominsk, southwest of Moscow.

The FSB released footage from the scene of the explosion, which appeared to correspond with an incident reported in mid-September involving a blue Subaru. No injuries were recorded, as the blast reportedly occurred late at night. Investigators believe the explosive was placed underneath the targeted vehicle, damaging another car parked nearby.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly confessed that he reached out to Ukrainian intelligence “for quick money” and was instructed to send videos as proof of task completion. He reportedly earned around $1,000 for carrying out the arson attack.

Authorities stated that bomb-making components and digital evidence of communication with Ukrainian intelligence agents were recovered during the search. The FSB said the man could face a life sentence if convicted of terrorism and treason, adding that the agency remains determined to identify and prosecute all individuals collaborating with Kiev.
