Türkiye Confirms Support for Palestine’s State Based on 1967 Borders

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated Türkiye's unwavering support for the creation of a Palestinian state, firmly stating that such a state will “definitely” come into existence, based on the 1967 boundaries and with East Jerusalem as its designated capital.

Speaking at a group meeting of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in Ankara, Erdogan drew a parallel between the liberation of Syrians and the future of Palestinians, emphasizing the inevitability of Palestinian statehood.

He further highlighted that responsibility for achieving peace in the region cannot be solely placed on the shoulders of the Palestinians or the group Hamas.

“Peace is not a one-winged bird,” he remarked, underscoring that holding only Hamas and Palestinians accountable for the peace process is neither just, nor accurate, nor a practical strategy.

Condemning the persistent Israeli military operations in Gaza, Erdogan called for an immediate end to the violence.

“If peace is truly desired, Israel's attacks must be stopped immediately,” he asserted, reinforcing Türkiye’s stance on ceasing hostilities as a prerequisite for dialogue.

Erdogan also outlined his government’s comprehensive strategy toward resolving the crisis, which includes “humanitarian aid, diplomatic engagement, trade measures, and recognition of the Palestinian state.”

He underlined that a ceasefire, alongside a fair and lasting peace, remains the most rational solution for all involved.

Referring to the diplomatic efforts taking place in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh, he expressed hope that these discussions would yield positive outcomes.

In his remarks, the Turkish leader also commended Hamas for its participation in peace initiatives, acknowledging their involvement in efforts to reach a resolution.

According to a news agency, Erdogan’s statements reflect Türkiye’s broader commitment to supporting Palestinian sovereignty and fostering stability in the region.
