(MENAFN) Heavy rains and severe flooding, unleashed by Typhoon Matmo, have claimed the lives of at least three individuals and left four others missing in northern Vietnam, a local media outlet reported on Tuesday. The report, citing the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, confirmed that the typhoon's impact has been devastating, with widespread damage in the region.

The intense downpours caused extensive flooding, submerging or damaging over 4,800 homes. In addition, more than 1,600 homes have been isolated by floodwaters and landslides, trapping residents and making rescue efforts challenging. The agricultural sector has also been severely affected, with nearly 9,500 hectares of crops submerged and approximately 43,000 poultry either killed or swept away by the flooding.

Typhoon Matmo, which marked the 11th storm to hit Vietnam in 2025, did not make landfall but still brought relentless rains to the northern provinces. Despite the storm bypassing a direct landfall, the deluge has wreaked havoc, particularly in areas already vulnerable to flooding and natural disasters.
