Doha, Qatar: Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW) 2025, the country's largest community-focused initiative, will celebrate its 10th edition from November 1 to 8, reaffirming its role as a national platform for environmental action and awareness.

Led by the Earthna Center for a Sustainable Future, a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), and organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC), the annual event aims to engage Qatar's community, government, NGOs, and private sector in a week-long series of activities, events, and projects focused on sustainability.

Since its launch in 2016, Qatar Sustainability Week has grown steadily in scope and participation, attracting increasing involvement from individuals, institutions, and organisations each year. The 2025 edition is expected to build on this success by providing more opportunities for residents to take part in meaningful environmental action.

Speaking at a press conference to announce the launch of QSW 2025, Executive Director of Earthna, Dr. Gonzalo Castro de la Mata, highlighted the evolution of the initiative.

“Over the past decade, Qatar Sustainability Week has become the country's largest community platform. What began as a simple awareness campaign has now evolved into a nationwide movement,” he said.

Dr. Castro de la Mata noted that through the past nine editions, QSW has successfully engaged more than 750,000 participants across schools, universities, businesses, cultural institutions, and community organisations.

“This is my fourth Qatar Sustainability Week, and it is very inspiring to see how, together, we are transforming awareness into action,” he added.

This year's edition will feature a range of sustainability activities, including initiatives focusing on the new economy, sustainable food systems, green growth, and mangrove restoration.

The week will begin with a plastic recycling awareness campaign at the mangrove restoration site jointly managed by Earthna and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.

Reflecting on the initiative's impact, Dr. Castro de la Mata emphasised the importance of collective action.

“Last year alone, we recorded more than 500 activations, a clear example that everyone can contribute in their own way. Too often, people think climate change is overwhelming, but that simply isn't true. Schoolchildren can plant trees, parks can be kept cleaner, everyone can recycle and make small changes at home... and it truly makes an impact,” he said.

Assistant Undersecretary for Climate Change Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al-Sada reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to the cause.

“Qatar Sustainability Week is a major platform where every stakeholder is encouraged to play their part,” Al-Sada said.“Our collaboration aims to provide society with the tools to contribute effectively to Qatar's environment and sustainability goals.”

He added that the Ministry's ongoing cooperation with Earthna reflects Qatar's broader strategy to promote collaboration between institutions and communities while advancing the Qatar National Vision 2030, which balances economic and social development with environmental stewardship.

Among the many community activations planned for QSW 2025, Earthna will collaborate with the Ministry of Sports and Youth to launch programmes through a nationwide network of youth and sports clubs. Qatar Museums will host a vibrant youth festival at the Expo House in Al Bidda Park on November 1 and 8, promoting sustainability through creativity, culture, and innovation.

Mathaf: The Arab Museum of Modern Art will lead the creation of a participatory art installation, a symbolic piece of collective environmental action that is being considered for a Guinness World Record.

In collaboration with United Development Company (UDC), Earthna will also organise public sustainability activations at The Pearl, encouraging families and residents to engage in hands-on activities. Qatar University will conduct a nationwide campaign to mobilise students and promote sustainable practices both on and off campus.

Within Qatar Foundation, several schools in the Green Zone will host activities to educate students about environmental initiatives, while cafeterias across QF will participate in a campaign aimed at reducing food waste. Major malls such as Doha Festival City and The Gate Mall will also hold public exhibitions and events encouraging the public to join the movement for a greener future.

This year's strategic partners include the Ministry of Sports and Youth, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation's (KAHRAMAA) Tarsheed program, Qatar Museums, The British Council, QRDI Council, Qatar Free Zones Authority, Enbat Holding, United Development Company, Qatar University, University of Doha for Science and Technology, QF's Green Island, Mathaf, Qatar Chamber, Doha Festival City, and The Gate Mall.
