Political Turmoil In France After New PM Resigns

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- France's new Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu resigned on Monday, submitting his resignation to French President Emmanuel Macron amid a deepening political crisis.
"The conditions were not fulfilled for me to carry on as prime minister," Lecornu said, condemning "partisan interests" after his government fell just hours after being appointed.
Macron accepted his resignation following party criticism of the new cabinet.
French National Rally Leader Jordan Bardella and Marine Le Pen, leader of the right-wing opposition National Rally, called for dissolving the National Assembly; Le Pen also urged Macron to resign.
Paris's main stock index fell 1.73 percent after the announcement, and the euro slipped 0.63 percent to USD 1.1688 per euro around 11:00 a.m. local time (09:00 GMT).
Elysee Palace had unveiled Lecornu's government on Sunday, with Macron due to meet ministers today.
Macron had appointed Lecornu after lawmakers voted no confidence in Francois Bayrou, former prime minister, on September 8, nine months into Bayrou's term. (end)
