Amman, Oct. 6 (Petra) – The Ministry of Agriculture on Monday announced the suspension of green olive exports for the current season, citing lower-than-expected production levels. The decision is part of efforts to maximize the added value of agricultural products within the local market.
Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khreisat said the ministry remains committed to opening foreign markets for Jordanian agricultural products, noting the positive impact this has on the trade balance. However, he explained that the suspension was taken in consultation with the General Farmers Union, the Jordanian Olive Products Exporters Association, and the General Syndicate of Olive Press Owners and Producers, due to an anticipated decline in olive yields this year as a result of climate change.
Khreisat stressed that the ministry continues to monitor production closely and will take all necessary measures to ensure the availability of high-quality olive oil at reasonable prices for consumers.
