Romania Declares Red Code Alert for Torrential Rain

(MENAFN) Romania’s National Meteorological Administration (ANM) declared a Red Code alert Thursday—the most severe warning—for intense rainfall in Dolj and Olt counties. This alert is active from Thursday evening through Friday night.

Forecasters warned that these regions could be drenched with up to 100 to 110 liters of rain per square meter during this period.

A wider special weather advisory, spanning from Thursday morning until Saturday, highlights the risk of extreme cold, heavy rain, strong winds, and blizzard conditions above 1,500 meters elevation.

Additionally, an Orange Code warning for heavy snowfall has been activated in the mountainous central and southwestern areas of Romania. By Friday night, these zones could see 30 to 50 centimeters of snow accompanied by fierce blizzard winds reaching 70 to 80 km/h.

Meanwhile, a Yellow Code alert is in place for the eastern Southern Carpathians and Curvature Carpathians above 1,500 meters, where blizzard conditions and 50 to 70 km/h winds may deposit 10 to 30 centimeters of snow by Friday evening.
