Villavicencio withdraws her US visa in solidarity with Petro

(MENAFN) Rosa Villavicencio, the Foreign Minister of Colombia, stated that she will willingly give up her US visa as a way to show unity with President Gustavo Petro, whose own visa was withdrawn.

Villavicencio stated that "this is an act of dignity in the face of the unacceptable decision to revoke the visa of the President of Colombia," she also mentioned that "our sovereignty does not bow down. Colombia must be respected."

Villavicencio recognized that ties with the US were "tense" following the US State Department announcement on Friday that it would withdraw Petro's visa because of his "incendiary actions" in a pro-Palestinian rally in NY.

The State Department posted on X platform: "earlier today, Colombian president @petrogustavo stood on a NYC street and urged US soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence."

During the UN General Assembly proceedings in New York, Petro spoke to a group of protesters, informing American soldiers to "disobey the orders of Trump!"

He stated that "I ask all soldiers in the United States army not to point their rifles at humanity. Disobey Trump’s order! Obey the order of humanity!”
