UAE's First Commercial Unmanned Cargo Transportation Launch
(MENAFN- Mid-East Info) The UAE has taken a historic step into the future of autonomous transportation with the launch of the nation's first commercial fleet of self-driving electric trucks in the Al Jazeera Al Hamra industrial zone, a cutting-edge hub for large-scale projects. This milestone was realized through a partnership of Evocargo, a developer of autonomous transport and autopilot system, and RAK Ceramics, a leading multinational manufacturer of ceramics and sanitary ware. This breakthrough marks a new era for the country's logistics sector and underscores the UAE's unwavering commitment to pioneering smart mobility solutions and driving sustainable progress across industries.
A fleet of unmanned Evocargo N1 trucks is now being used to transport ceramics and sanitary ware products, demonstrating the ability to navigate dynamic environments while processing road signs, markings, pedestrian crossings, and infrastructure features in real time. Each vehicle offers a range of up to 200 km per charge, showcasing practical readiness for daily commercial use. The Evocargo N1 features a fifth-generation autopilot system and an advanced AI-powered multi-sensor perception system, supported by a four-layer safety framework to ensure high data accuracy and operational reliability. The vehicles navigate using LIDARs, sonars, and cameras with a computing unit processing real-time sensor and navigation data to adapt instantly to road conditions. The system operates continuously, pausing only for charging and simultaneous loading or unloading. “This launch proves autonomous, zero-emission transport is no longer a concept, but a viable solution for daily commercial operations. It's a transformative step for UAE's logistics sector – enhancing supply chains, boosting efficiency, and reducing environmental impact. Our Robots-as-a-Service model makes this innovation accessible and scalable, offering businesses subscription-based access to autonomous vehicle without upfront costs,” said Shaheem Musthafa, CEO of Evocargo Autonomous Logistic Services in UAE. Sustainability is at the core of this innovation. Using electricity as their sole power source, the trucks significantly reduce harmful emissions. The technology, now integrated into the operations of RAK Ceramics, strengthens its ESG commitments and reflects the country's broader drive to incorporate environmentally responsible practices into every stage of industrial growth. “Integrating autonomous electric trucks into logistics operations reflects both a commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility,” said RAK Ceramics.“By adopting these advanced technologies, we are enhancing operational performance and efficiency, as well as contributing to a reduced carbon footprint. This initiative represents a significant step in supporting the UAE's broader vision for sustainable development and demonstrates how industry and sustainability can progress hand in hand.”
