Germany authorizes weapons deliveries to Israel

(MENAFN) The German government has once again authorized arms shipments to Israel, following a temporary restriction linked to Tel Aviv’s ongoing war in Gaza, according to reports.

The Ministry of Economics stated that the approved exports amounted to at least €2.46 million ($2.89 million) in response to a parliamentary inquiry from the opposition Left Party.

The government emphasized that the approvals were limited to “other military equipment” rather than “war weapons” and represented only a small portion of previously authorized exports. The permits were issued between September 13 and 22.

Left Party lawmaker Lea Reisner sharply criticized the decision to continue issuing export licenses.

"The German government is misleading the public with an alleged delivery freeze while continuing to approve millions of dollars' worth of military equipment for Israel," the military expert said.

"This 'freeze' is pure eyewash and can be revoked at will at any time," Reisner added.

Earlier, on August 8, Chancellor Friedrich Merz had temporarily prohibited the delivery of military equipment that could be used in the Gaza conflict, in response to Israel’s war in the region.

Germany has witnessed large-scale protests in recent weeks against Berlin’s military support for Israel, with more than 100,000 demonstrators gathering in Berlin on Saturday to demand “an end to all military cooperation with Israel.”
