(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- The United States Senate failed to approve a vital funding package that would have prevented a looming government shutdown, as the bill secured only 55 votes against 45, falling short of the required 60-vote threshold.
The proposal received support from nearly all Republican senators except one, while most Democrats opposed it with only three breaking ranks, according to official results announced by the upper chamber's media office shortly after the vote concluded late Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump warned of irreversible consequences from a shutdown, including mass furloughs, cancellations of key programs, and disruption of services, as the federal government risks entering a partial closure at midnight without an approved budget. (end)
