Rs 2,277 Cr DSIR Scheme Sanctioned To Nurture Talent In Maths, Science, Engineering & Medical


(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Sep 25 (KNN) The Cabinet has approved a new scheme on Capacity Building and Human Resource Development.

Under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research / Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR/CSIR), with a total outlay of Rs 2,277.397 crore for the Fifteenth Finance Commission cycle (2021-22 to 2025-26).

The decision aims to strengthen India's research ecosystem by expanding opportunities for young researchers and supporting institutions engaged in science and technology development.

Implemented by CSIR, the scheme will cover R&D institutions, national laboratories, universities, Institutes of National Importance, and Institutes of Eminence.

The programme is designed to nurture talent in Science, Technology & Engineering, Medical, and Mathematical Sciences (STEMM), providing researchers with mentorship from senior scientists and faculty.

It also contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by increasing the researcher-to-population ratio in the country.

India has made significant progress in scientific research over the past decade, improving its position to 39th in the 2024 Global Innovation Index, according to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

The country also ranks among the top three globally in scientific paper publications, as per U.S National Science Foundation (NSF) data.

The umbrella scheme brings together multiple initiatives, including doctoral and postdoctoral fellowships, extramural and emeritus scientist programmes along with the Bhatnagar Fellowship, awards to promote and recognise excellence, and provisions for knowledge-sharing through travel and symposia grants.
