Central Japanese city enacts regulation to restrict screen time
(MENAFN) On Monday, a central Japanese city enacted a rule advising the population to reduce phone usage, video game consoles, as well as other electronics to 2 hours a day apart from work and school. However, there will be no fines imposed.
A news agency reported that the city of Toyoake in Aichi Prefecture adopted the law, which occurs as a reaction to rising worries regarding the cons of immoderate screen time. The law is considered groundbreaking in Japan.
The ordinance, which is expected to be enforced on the 1st of October, warns that the extreme use of video broadcasting might result in negative consequences. For example, insomnia as well as decreased family time.
It recommends elementary school students to abstain from smartphones use after 9 pm, while junior high school students and older should stop from using them after 10 pm, highlighting that "sufficient sleep is essential for physical and mental growth" for all minors.
