Cairo, Sept 20 (Petra) – The Arab Parliament on Saturday welcomed findings by the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry, which corroborated Israel committed genocide against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip in a gross violation of international humanitarian law and relevant UN conventions and resolutions.
"The report represents a new and categorical condemnation of the (Israeli) occupation's brutal policies and practices against the Palestinian people, as it reflects the extent of human suffering of people in the Gaza Strip, especially children, women, and the elderly, as a result of the blockade, starvation, and ongoing aggression," Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi said in a statement.
The international community is facing a real test after the release of the report, he said, adding that "it is no longer acceptable to simply monitor and document crimes without taking serious and binding action to enforce the resolutions, implement the two-state solution, end the suffering of the Palestinian people, ensure that the leaders of the occupation (authority) are held to account as war criminals before the International Criminal Court, and end the policy of impunity that has prompted them to commit further crimes.
Al-Yamahi reiterated an Arab Parliament's call for urgent action to protect the Palestinian people and support their legitimate right to self-determination and to establish an independent, sovereign state, as "a just and lasting way to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and put an end to the occupation."
