Chornovol To Replace Parubiy In Ukrainian Parliament


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, the CEC's press service announced the decision after receiving a document from the Verkhovna Rada secretariat confirming the early termination of MP Andriy Parubiy's mandate.

Parubiy had been elected on July 21, 2019, in the snap parliamentary elections from the nationwide multi-member constituency on the list of the European Solidarity party.

The CEC reviewed the submitted document and confirmed Chornovol, next in line on the European Solidarity party list at No. 27, as elected to parliament in these elections.

On August 30, former Parliament Speaker and MP Andriy Parubiy was shot dead in Lviv. The attacker fired eight shots.

The suspect was detained overnight on September 1 in the Khmelnytskyi region. That same day, the head of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office signed a notice of suspicion against a 52-year-old Lviv resident in connection with Parubiy's murder.

Initially, prosecutors charged him under two articles of Ukraine's Criminal Code: Article 115, Part 1 (premeditated murder) and Article 263, Part 1 (illegal handling of weapons).

Before the court hearing began, the suspect admitted to journalists that he had committed the killing.

Later, the prosecution reclassified the charges to Article 263, Part 1 (illegal handling of weapons) and Article 112 (attempt on the life of a member of parliament of Ukraine, committed in connection with his state or public activities).
