Jordan Probes Into King Hussein Bridge Shooting

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- Jordanian official bodies have opened investigations into a shooting that took place this afternoon on the opposite side of the King Hussein Bridge (Karamah Crossing), Jordan authorities announced on Thursday.
Jordan denounces and rejects the shooting incident, seeing it as a breach of the law and a danger to the country's interests and its capacity to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, Jordan's Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs said in a statement.
The ministry affirmed Jordan's unwavering stance against any violent and unlawful acts that jeopardizes the Hashemite Kingdom's role, interests, or ability to provide help to the Gaza Strip, it added.
The Ministry stressed it is following up, in cooperation with all concerned bodies, the situation of the drivers who crossed the bridge today to bring aid to Gaza, to guarantee their prompt return to Jordan.
It underlined the necessity of immediately stopping the Israeli occupation aggression on Gaza and reaching a permanent ceasefire as well as initiating effective diplomatic action to end the conflict based on the two-state solution.
In line with the protocols, 22 Jordanian relief trucks entered Gaza today that allowed 8,664 aid trucks to travel in 201 convoys since the eruption of the Israeli aggression in Gaza, it elaborated.
The suspected driver Abdulmutalib al-Qaisi, born 1968, is a civilian and has started transporting aid to Gaza for three months, it pointed out. (end)
