Türkiye, Clearstream Prepare Launching Direct Securities Link
(MENAFN) The Turkish Central Securities Depository and Trade Repository (CSD) and the international central securities depository Clearstream Banking are set to launch a direct connection between the two institutions, strengthening the current indirect arrangement.
This link will streamline the settlement and custody processes for Turkish government debt securities, issued through the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT), using an omnibus account framework, the CSD announced on Wednesday.
Clearstream’s local collaborator, TEB Securities Services, will serve as the account operator, with operations scheduled to commence on September 29, the announcement added.
This initiative will expand foreign investors’ access to Turkish capital markets, allowing them to hold Turkish government debt securities in an omnibus account rather than in segregated accounts, as is the case with the current setup, according to the CSD.
"Clearstream will continue to support Turkish equities and corporate bonds via the existing segregated account structure, in addition to the new omnibus account structure for Turkish government debt securities," the statement noted.
Jan Willems, head of global markets at Clearstream, commented: “This new investment link is part of a larger strategic initiative at Clearstream to improve operational excellence through direct market access, as well as providing our clients with enhanced asset protection.”
