Petra Authority Completes Dam Project To Boost Climate Resilience

Petra, Sep. 17 (Petra) – The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA), in cooperation with Mercy Corps, has completed the construction of a dam in Wadi al-Maqar with a storage capacity exceeding 3,000 cubic meters.
In a statement on Wednesday, the PDTRA said the initiative aims to strengthen infrastructure, reduce flash flood risks, protect lives and property, improve water resource management, and advance sustainable development.
The PDTRA added that the project comes under a memorandum of understanding recently signed with Mercy Corps as part of efforts to enhance community resilience and response to climate change. The program also includes constructing several dams in the main valleys of Wadi Musa to bolster local capacity to address environmental and climate challenges.
The project was implemented by the Sustainable Development Commission, represented by the Natural Resources Development Directorate, with the support of the Public Works and Engineering Studies Directorate.
