U.S. House Speaker Spearheads Solemn Vigil for Charlie Kirk

(MENAFN) On Monday, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson spearheaded a solemn vigil at the Capitol to honor the late conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The event brought together House leadership and numerous members of Congress to offer remarks and prayers following the shocking assassination of Kirk.

Johnson solemnly declared, "Our friend Charlie did not pass away in a car accident. He was assassinated for standing for his political beliefs."

Kirk, aged 31, was tragically shot dead on September 10 while speaking to a group of students at Utah Valley University in Orem, approximately 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. Authorities have detained 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the killing of the prominent right-wing influencer.

On Monday, FBI Director Kash Patel reported that DNA evidence collected from the crime scene matches the suspect who is currently in custody. He highlighted that the FBI’s investigation is ongoing, with agents continuing to interview witnesses and analyze forensic materials such as cell phone data and DNA samples. The information gathered is being coordinated with both local and federal prosecutors to determine appropriate charges.

The ongoing investigation underscores the gravity of the incident and the heightened security concerns surrounding politically motivated violence in the United States.
