Ukrenergo Comments On Potential Power Cuts Ahead Of Upcoming Winter
“If there are no new systemic attacks on energy facilities, there is every reason to expect that we will go through the winter season without restrictions on electricity consumption. Overall, the energy system is being prepared for the winter period as planned, but its successful operation will depend on the intensity of enemy strikes and the speed of restoration works. We cannot predict how the enemy will act in winter and how strong shelling will be. But, we know for sure that we must be ready for any scenarios,” the press service noted.
As emphasized by the company, Ukraine managed to restore some of its lost generation facilities and damaged transmission system units. In addition, newly-built distributed generation facilities are already having an impact on the energy system, both those already connected to the grid and those used by businesses as backup power sources.
“According to companies that produce electricity using gas turbine and gas piston plants, this type of generation in Ukraine in 2025 increased by more than 200% as of early September,” Ukrenergo mentioned.
In order to cover increased consumption in winter, the energy system operator is planning to attract all available generation sources and opportunities provided by commercial electricity exchange with neighboring European countries.
According to Ukrenergo's press service, the power transmission system is being actively prepared for the upcoming winter. In particular, this includes the restoration of equipment damaged by Russians and the replenishment of material stocks needed for repairs.
“In cooperation with partners, the company also continues to strengthen the physical protection of infrastructure facilities and the technical capabilities of repair crews. At war-affected facilities, scheduled grid repairs and emergency restoration works were carried out in full. With the measures taken, the energy system is able to restore operation relatively quickly even after serious damage,” Ukrenergo concluded.
A reminder that most Automatic Frequency Load Shedding (AFLS) equipment elements, which were checked by specialists from the Ukrainian State Inspectorate for Energy Supervision, are in working condition.
