EU has to fix ties with Trump
(MENAFN) The bloc’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, stated that the EU has to start working on mending the ties with US Leader Donald Trump, the “most influential man in the world,” and align to his approach to do business and politics.
On Friday, Kallas made the statements in an interview with a German news agency. She was asked whether the EU can still trust switching Trump following a condemned trade agreement that enforced a 15% tariff on most exports from the bloc while removing tariffs on US manufactured goods.
The deal included replacing Russian energy supplies with imports from the United States. It drew criticism from EU officials, who argued that it benefits Washington.
Kallas stated “the US is and remains our most important partner. But the new administration has clearly changed how it conducts policy and official business. We Europeans must adapt and adjust to their way of working,” she also added that Trump’s tariffs have turned to a “new benchmark for how well a country gets along with the US.”
