Arab League Chief: Doha Summit To Send Message Of Solidarity With Qatar

DOHA, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Aboul-Gheit said the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, scheduled for Monday, would send a message of solidarity with the State of Qatar in the wake of the Israeli occupation attack on Doha on September 9.
The solidarity of the Arab and Muslim world stems from appreciation of Qatar's crucial role in the joint mediation efforts with Egypt to stop the bloodshed in the occupied Palestinian territories, he said in a speech to the pre-summit ministerial meeting on Sunday.
Aboul-Gheit condemned as "shameful" the silence of several countries around the world at the unspeakable crimes being committed by the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip and other parts of the Middle East over the past two years.
"The official silence by some governments encouraged the Israeli occupation forces to persist in their atrocities under the perception that the can do anything and go unpunished," he said.
"Failure to speak against a crime is not only a true crime, but also prepare ground for more crimes," the League chief argued.
Aboul-Gheit stressed the need of bringing to book all culprits in the crimes of war, including the genocidal acts, displacement and starvation, which destroyed a whole community in Gaza Strip.
Denouncing the recent Israeli occupation aggression on Doha, he said it signaled Israeli occupation desire to expand the scope of violence.
"The State of Qatar provided to have a genuine desire to restore peace and save lives," Aboul-Gheit said, pointing to Qatar's role in the joint mediation.
He stressed the need of doubling the efforts to stop the war machine and criminality of the Israeli occupation authorities.
The preparatory ministerial meeting, chaired by Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jasem Al Thani, gathered representatives of the member states of the League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. (pickup previous)
