Beijing Book Fair Draws Crowds With Record 400,000 Titles

The“Me and the Temple of Earth” book fair opened on Friday at Beijing's Ditan Park, drawing thousands of visitors to one of China's busiest literary events.

Part of the 2025 Beijing Cultural Forum, the exhibition spans 18,000 square meters and showcases more than 400,000 titles, setting a new benchmark for scale and variety.

More than 330 publishers, booksellers and exhibitors from across the country are taking part, according to the Global Times. The fair features 10 themed sections, including classics, modern science, children's literature, parenting, and foreign-language books.

Launched in 1990, the annual fair has grown into a highlight of Beijing's cultural calendar. This year's theme,“Reading and Meeting a Better Self,” has transformed Ditan Park into one of the liveliest spots in the city.

Chinese book fairs are typically popular among students and young readers, but reporters described this year's edition as the most energetic gathering they have witnessed.

In addition to the vast selection of books, organizers have scheduled 167 cultural activities, ranging from literary lectures and author meet-and-greets to a full-moon reading night. The event runs through September 22.

The fair underscores China's efforts to foster a stronger reading culture, particularly among its youth, by merging literature with live cultural experiences.

It also reflects Beijing's ambition to position itself as a global cultural hub, promoting both traditional heritage and modern literary engagement on an international stage.
