Leaked files reveal Former British PM leveraging from goverment contacts
(MENAFN) Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is accused of leveraging contacts and influence gained during his time in office for personal financial gain, according to a news agency, which reported on leaked documents on Monday.
The media outlet obtained roughly 2GB of files from Johnson’s post-government office, including emails, invoices, contracts, speeches, and spreadsheets. Most of the materials span September 2022 to July 2024, though some date back to his premiership.
The Guardian highlighted four instances it described as potentially problematic. Shortly after assuming office in 2019, Johnson allegedly held a private meeting with billionaire Peter Thiel, co-founder of US data firm Palantir Technologies, which was pursuing UK contracts at the time. In 2020, he reportedly hosted a party for Conservative peer David Brownlow, who helped fund renovations of the prime minister’s residence—a gathering that may have breached Covid-19 rules.
After leaving government, Johnson is said to have lobbied Saudi officials he previously met in office and received six-figure payments from a hedge fund following a trip to Venezuela, which The Guardian suggested could have been for facilitating meetings with the country’s leadership.
