8 Master's, 4 Phd Programmes Launched In 5 Varsities
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has announced the launch of eight master's and four PhD programmes at five universities of the country.
MoHE said five new facilities and 31 departments had also been set up in various varsities.
In a statement, the MoHE said a Higher Education Council meeting, chaired by Minister Sheikh Neda Mohammad Nadim and attended by deputy ministers of finance, economy and education, chancellors of public universities and representatives of private universities, approved the new programmes.
It said based on the decision of the Higher Education Council, Kabul University, Kabul Education University and the Afghan International Islamic University would host four PhD programmes in applied mathematics, software engineering and artificial intelligence.
Similarly, eight Master's degree programmes have been established at Kabul University, Afghan International Islamic University, Kandahar University and Jahan Private university in the fields of ecology, software engineering, artificial intelligence, transportation engineering, integrated water resource management, business administration, criminal Law and criminology and information technology.
The statement further noted that five new faculties and 31 new departments have been created within existing faculties of various universities, but did not provide further details.
At the meeting, Sheikh Neda Mohammad Nadeem said his ministry was committed to the growth, standardisation, support and promotion of both public and private universities.
He described the Higher Education Council as the highest decision-making body of the ministry and added that all matters presented to the council were aligned with the needs of society and in accordance with the principles, standards and quality requirements of the Islamic Emirate and MoHE.
He added that since the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), the ministry had created around 100 Master's programmes and more than 30 PhD programmes in natural and social sciences, including computer science, engineering, medicine, agriculture and other fields, to promote higher education inside the country.
Nadeem further stated that efforts were underway to create more postgraduate programmes to meet the needs of Afghan youth and ensure Afghanistan's self-sufficiency. For these programmes, in addition to local professors, foreign lecturers with high salaries have been hired, and this process would continue.
The statement underlined that the Higher Education Council, established by order of the Prime Minister, serves as the main decision-making body for the creation and dissolution of faculties, programmes, departments and other key decisions of the ministry.
