Srinagar: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday laid the foundation stone for the much-awaited Gurugram Metro Phase 1 project, a key step toward transforming the city's urban transport infrastructure.

The ceremony was held at Gurugram University auditorium in the presence of senior officials, industry representatives, and local stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, CM Saini described the launch as a“historic day” for Gurugram.“The metro rail project will reduce congestion and pollution in the city. This project will transform the transport infrastructure of Gurugram and boost connectivity across NCR,” he said.

The first phase of the metro, spanning 28.5 km, will connect Millennium City Centre to Sector 101 of Gurugram, passing through 13 stations along the route. The project, which includes the construction of a 15.22 km viaduct, will cost an estimated ₹5,600 crore. According to Union Minister Khattar, the expansion will not only ease daily commutes but also spur development across Gurugram, Manesar, and Faridabad.

The metro project is also expected to provide a major boost to Gurugram's real estate sector. Pradeep Aggarwal, Founder & Chairman of Signature Global (India) Ltd., hailed the development as a“landmark moment in the city's growth journey.” He said,“Metro connectivity is the backbone of any modern urban ecosystem, and this expansion-spanning 15 km with 15 new stations-will ease mobility, decongest traffic, and unlock new opportunities for both businesses and citizens.”
