Srinagar- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday called for reimagining the education system to focus on sustainable development, climate resilience, and innovation, while underlining the irreplaceable human touch that teachers bring to classrooms.

Addressing a Teachers' Day event in Srinagar, the LG paid tributes to former President and educationist Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and felicitated award-winning teachers from across Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that education must instill awareness of finite natural resources and prepare youth to protect biodiversity and ecosystems.

“The balance between economic growth and environment protection is the key to prosperity and social equity. Our education system should emphasize that our natural resources are finite and youth must work on preserving ecosystems,” Sinha said. He urged institutions to link students with the Green Jammu Kashmir Drive for field experience and introduce climate change as a compulsory subject.

Pointing to rising natural disasters, the LG said schools must strengthen early warning systems and collaborate with communities for nature-based disaster solutions. He also encouraged teachers to nurture life skills, critical thinking, creativity, and values like teamwork and perseverance.

On technology's growing role, Sinha noted that artificial intelligence and machine learning have reshaped industries and education, but insisted teachers remain unmatched.“The most special quality of a teacher is the ability to bring a human touch to the classroom. Teachers should not compete with technology but use it to benefit students,” he said.
