Algeria To Import 10,000 Buses By February
The minister spoke on the matter at the opening of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), which runs until September 10 in Algiers, organized by African lender Afreximbank in collaboration with the African Union Commission and the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
According to Sayoud, the new buses will mark the beginning of the second phase of the renewal of Algeria's public transport fleet. He said 4,680 imported buses will replace vehicles over 30 years old, while another 5,320 units will partially replace those between 20 and 30 years old.
The minister also said that his ministry has completed the inventory of old buses, as well as the categories and capacities of buses to be imported, covering urban, suburban, interprovincial, and rural transport. However, the specifications are still being developed, Sayoud noted. He added that the import is only a first step, and the launch of Algerian bus manufacturing plants is expected.
