UN: Over 260,000 Afghan Children Suffer After Earthquake, Hundreds Orphaned

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) The UN reports over 260,000 Afghan children face dire conditions after eastern earthquakes, with hundreds orphaned, families lacking shelter, and urgent calls for global aid and psychological support.

The United Nations has announced that the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has severely affected the lives of thousands of children, leaving many without parents.

According to UN reports, more than 260,000 children in the affected provinces are facing the direct consequences of the disaster, while nearly 280 have been orphaned.

The organization warned that aftershocks and the harsh living conditions in the aftermath are adding to children's fear and anxiety, as many families remain without proper shelter. Some survivors have resorted to using rice sacks or other makeshift items as bedding.

The UN office in Afghanistan emphasized that children not only require urgent food and medical assistance but also psychological support and long-term sustainable aid.

Officials have urged the international community to immediately provide the resources needed to ease the suffering of families and protect vulnerable children.

The recent earthquakes in eastern Afghanistan mark one of the most severe humanitarian crises in decades, with experts warning that recovery will require sustained international engagement.

Without timely relief and coordinated long-term planning, the UN cautions that the psychological and social impacts on children and families could persist for years to come.
