Profile Articles Activity

My research focuses on marginalised children and families, especially those with precarious immigration status; the intersection of neoliberal welfare and border regimes which shape their lives; and their practices of sustenance, care, social reproduction, and solidarity. My research, teaching, and public engagement is located at the intersections of sociology of childhood and materialist feminist thought.

Methodologically, I am interested in the ethics and politics of ethnography and participatory research with children and other marginalised social groups. I am committed to change-orientated research for social justice, and co-design and collaborative knowledge production lie at the heart of my approach.

I sat on the Faculty Ethics Committee from 2014-2021 and have worked with migrants' rights organisations in Canada and the UK since the 1990s, including as a community researcher.

I am the director of the Critical Childhood Studies Centre ( and a member of the editorial board of the journals Childhood, Children's Geographies, and Sociedad e Infancias)
