The debut project highlights the ensemble's diverse compositions, with standout contributions from Swiss drummer Willem Jochems and his peers.

Boston, MA - Vesuvio marks the debut of an ensemble of young, international musicians, bringing together a range of influences and compositional voices. The album blends jazz, fusion, and contemporary styles into a cohesive project that reflects both collaboration and individuality across its eight tracks.

Each member of the group contributes their own compositional perspective, giving Vesuvio its rich variety. Saxophonist Coy Simmons contributes Inward, a layered exploration that highlights his expressive saxophone voice. Guitarist Angelo Della Valle follows with Perugia and Flow, pieces marked by harmonic depth and rhythmic drive. Pianist Hana Uwai offers Orange Clouds, a composition with textural warmth and melodic grace. Bassist Stefan Dresler anchors the album with Clementine and also provides the atmospheric introduction, Divonne.

Swiss drummer and composer Willem Jochems contributes two standout tracks of his own: La Versoix and I'm Eating Soup. La Versoix demonstrates his melodic sensibilities, weaving European influences into a contemporary jazz framework. I'm Eating Soup, featuring guest artist Ido Eylon on lead keyboard and synth, contrasts playfulness with intricate rhythmic interplay, further underscoring the group's openness to experiment.

As performers, the ensemble strikes a balance between individual expression and collective cohesion. Jochems' drumming, for instance, is notable for its sensitivity-guiding dynamics and form without overwhelming the compositions. Similarly, Simmons' saxophone lines, Uwai's keyboard textures, Della Valle's guitar phrasing, and Dresler's grounding bass all interact with nuance, creating a soundscape that feels larger than the sum of its parts.

What ultimately distinguishes Vesuvio is the way it captures the spirit of collaboration. Rather than spotlighting a single voice, the album thrives on the interplay of its contributors , each of whom brings distinct cultural and musical backgrounds into the project. The result is an album that is at once eclectic and unified, establishing the group as a promising collective within today's global jazz and contemporary music landscape.
