India, Singapore Agree To Cement Ties, Explore New Avenues


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW DELHI, Sept 4 (KUNA) -- India and Singapore on Thursday agreed to cement their bilateral cooperation in a number of areas of mutual interest and explored new avenues of collaboration.
A statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive talks with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong who is on an official visit to India from September 2 to 4.
Modi and Wong held wide-ranging discussions and witnessed the exchange of various MoUs. "The ties have developed into an all-round cooperation, including in the areas of political, economic, security, technology, education, people-to-people and cultural links," the statement said.
In order to make the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, both sides agreed to adopt a forward-looking roadmap to set the vision and direction for the next phase of bilateral relations.
Both leaders also agreed to deepen this framework cooperation in the areas of economic cooperation, skills development, digitalisation, sustainability, connectivity, healthcare and medicine, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and defence and security cooperation.
Addressing a joint press conference after the talks, Modi said: "Today, in the South East Asian region, Singapore stands as our largest trading partner. Singapore has made substantial investments in India. Our defense ties continue to grow stronger, and our people-to-people relations are both deep and vibrant." He added that apart from cooperation in traditional areas, advanced manufacturing, green shipping, skilling, civil nuclear energy, and urban water management have been earmarked for future collaboration.
