Government Decides To Liquidate 33 Public Enterprises Including Mihin Lanka

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Government has decided to liquidate 33 public enterprises including Mihin Lanka and the Thurusaviya Fund, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.

Jayatissa announced that certain enterprises that were established with the objective of providing public services and promoting strategic economic activities, had suffered extensive losses and are no more in operation.

The Cabinet has decided that it is appropriate to close down various categories of state enterprises, such as statutory bodies, state corporations, and state-owned companies that do not make a meaningful contribution to the national economy or provision of public services, rather than continuing to operate them as a burden on the government.

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Disanayake, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, to liquidate 33 public enterprises that are not at a functional level in two stages under the supervision of the Special Liquidation Unit established under the aforementioned Ministry.

Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that under the first phase, Mihin Lanka, Thurusaviya Fund, Asian Games (Pvt) Ltd, Selendiva Investments Limited, Lanka Logistics (Pvt) Ltd, Commonwealth Games Hambantota (Pvt) Ltd, and Magampura Port Management Company, will be liquidated.
