Qatar Run Riot In 13-0 Demolition Of Brunei At U-23 Asian Cup Qualifiers
Doha, Qatar: Moustafa Asar lit up the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium with a magnificent four-goal assault while Noureldan Tamer and Marawan Brimil scored a brace each as Qatar sealed a massive 13-0 win over Brunei in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualifiers in Doha yesterday.
Mubarak Shanan Hamza, Jassem Al Sharshani, Mohamed Surag, Hashmi Al Hussain and Abdulaziz Mohamad Hassan added rest of the goals as Qatar took the lead in Group H.
Asar opened the floodgates in the fourth minute before Sharshani doubled the lead two minutes later. Hamza converted a penalty five minutes later, Surag scored in the 13th minute, before Al Hussain made it 5-0 in favour of the hosts in the 20th minute.
Asar scored his second goal in the 23rd minute before Hassan added the seventh in the 33rd.
Brunei's defence was no match for Qatar's striking prowess as Qatar took a commanding 7-0 lead going into the break.
Qatar refused to go easy on the visitors after the break, adding three more goals in quick succession. Asar completed his hat-trick goal in the 54th minute, Tamer struck two minutes later, before the Al Rayyan striker scored his fourth in the 57th minute.
Brimil then scored twice (70', 83'), before Ibrahim sealed his brace in stoppage time to end a nightmare start for Brunei in the competition.
In their next match of the group stage on Saturday, Qatar will meet India, who had earlier beaten Bahrain 2-0 at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium. On the other hand, Brunei will look to regroup when they face Bahrain on the same day.
Earlier, India's win was powered by a first half strike by Muhammad Suhail and another in the dying minutes by Shivaldo Singh.
For the opening half-hour, the two teams were evenly matched until Suhail - who represents Indian Super League side Punjab FC - broke the deadlock in the 31st minute.
Any hopes of a comeback were dashed deep into stoppage time when Singh added India's second to seal the win.
