Qatar Play Out 2-2 Draw With Bahrain In Friendly
Doha: Qatar were held to a 2-2 draw by Bahrain in a friendly match played behind closed doors at Al Thumama Stadium on Wednesday.
Forwards Mohammed Muntari and Ahmed Alaaeldin found the net for the Asian champions, while Kamil Al-Aswad and Ebrahim Al-Khattal scored for Bahrain.
It was the first of two friendlies for Qatar during the international break as they prepare for the crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian play-offs next month.
Julen Lopetegui's side will face Russia on Sunday at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in their second friendly.
In the upcoming World Cup play-offs, Qatar are grouped with Oman and the UAE. They will face Oman on October 8 and the UAE on October 14. The group winners will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. Runners-up will enter a two-legged play-off on November 13 and 18 for a place in the FIFA Playoff Tournament – the final route to the World Cup.
Bahrain, eliminated in the third round of Asian qualifiers, are now preparing for the FIFA Arab Cup, which will take place in Qatar from December 1 to 18.
They will face Djibouti in a one-off qualifier in November and play the UAE in a friendly on Monday.
