Ticket Sales Stop, LG Called to Restore Red Cross in J&K
By Syed Sammar Mehdi
Srinagar- The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir has been called to step in after the Indian Red Cross Society in the Union Territory halted two key fundraising activities for the past two financial years.
Ticket sales among schools, government offices, and the public, along with the Red Cross Mela in Jammu and the Lucky Bag Draw in Kashmir, have not taken place since 2023, creating an estimated ₹2 crore shortfall.
Rahul Sharma, a resident of Sastri Nagar, Jammu, wrote to the LG, who also serves as President of the regional Red Cross chapter, emphasizing the urgent need for action.
“The stoppage of ticket sales and public events has weakened the IRCS, J&K's ability to provide essential humanitarian services,” Sharma wrote, urging an inquiry and immediate directives to resume fundraising.
