Eden Hoffer
-
PhD Candidate, Faculty of Information and Media Studies & Faculty of Health Sciences,
Western University
With an interdisciplinary academic background in criminology, social justice, and psychology, Eden's doctoral research focusses on how mothers who are intimate partner violence (IPV) victim-survivors navigate social service systems, including healthcare, child welfare, and criminal legal systems. Her research aims to shed light on the ways that social systems and current Canadian policies and practices often not only fail to offer protection to IPV victim-survivors - who are disproportionately women - but actively harm them and ultimately make it nearly impossible for them to safely escape relationships in which violence is occurring.
Broadly, Eden's research interests include violence against women, intimate partner violence, women's health, motherhood/maternal well-being & IPV, femicide, legislation/policy, and the criminalization of victims.
