Revamped QSL Cup Gets Underway Today

Doha: Al Kharaitiyat and Lusail will play the opening match of the revamped QSL Cup at the Saud bin Abdulrahman Stadium of Al Wakrah Club at 6.30pm today.
Both teams will aim to utilise the tournament as a means to ready their players for the forthcoming Second Division League contests. This is particularly relevant as both teams are working diligently to fulfill their seasonal objectives by vying for the Second Division League championship.
In a simultaneous kick-off, Al Waab will play Mesaimeer at the Al Khor Stadium.
In the late evening two games (8.30pm), Al Gharafa will meet Al Sadd at Stadium 974 while Al Markhiya will play Muaither at Grand Hamad Stadium.
The tournament has been developed with a modern format like what is used in several continental and international tournaments. The competition will be held initially in a single-stage league format, with 10 matches per team over 10 weeks against teams of various levels.
The first and second-placed teams advance directly to the quarter-finals.
Teams placed from third to 14th will play six knockout matches, with the winning teams advancing to quarter-finals.
The tournament features 20 teams, including Qatar Stars League and Second Division teams.
