New Polio Case In Tank Raises Pakistan's 2025 Tally

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Pakistan reports a new polio case in Tank, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the total to 24 this year, highlighting urgent need for vaccination, especially in high-risk southern districts.

Pakistan's National Health Services reported a new polio case in Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), on September 1, 2025. This brings the nationwide total to 24 confirmed cases for the year, with 16 cases in KP, six in Sindh, and one each in Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan .

The latest case involves a 20-month-old child from southern KP's Tank district. This marks the 14th polio case reported from southern KP this year, highlighting the region's ongoing vulnerability despite vaccination efforts .

In response, KP authorities launched a comprehensive polio immunisation campaign targeting 5.7 million children across the province. The initiative focuses on areas with the highest incidence rates, including the southern districts, aiming to curb the spread of the virus .

The Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme continues to emphasize the importance of timely vaccination. Health officials stress that every unvaccinated child remains at risk and could contribute to the virus's spread .

Despite these efforts, challenges persist, including vaccine hesitancy and logistical issues in remote areas. Health authorities are intensifying outreach and education campaigns to address these barriers and ensure broader immunisation coverage.

Meanwhile, sustained efforts and community engagement are crucial to eradicating polio in Pakistan. Continued collaboration between government agencies, health organizations, and local communities will be essential in overcoming the remaining challenges.
