(MENAFN) Pro-Palestinian demonstrations erupted nationwide in Australia on Sunday, with organizers asserting that turnout reached tens of thousands across multiple cities.

Spearheaded by the Palestine Action Group, the national rallies came on the heels of a massive Sydney protest last week that drew tens of thousands and led to the closure of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Melbourne witnessed a massive outpouring of support as approximately 100,000 people filled the central business district, according to event organizers.

Bruce McPhate, a participant in the Melbourne rally, explained his motivation: "Anywhere else in the world it's never been acceptable, and I just felt I needed to come here today to make that point," referencing the devastating effects of the Gaza conflict on children.

Sydney’s gathering began with speeches at Hyde Park before protesters marched toward Belmore Park, attracting thousands.

In Canberra, around 2,000 demonstrators convened peacefully at Civic Square in what was described as a "largely peaceful" protest.

Hobart also saw a large march, with thousands moving through the streets in solidarity.

In Perth, organizers estimated that roughly 25,000 people assembled in the city center to voice their support for the Palestinian cause.

Meanwhile, in Adelaide, thousands gathered outside Parliament House for the March for Palestine event.
