Bangladesh Hosts Pakistani Foreign Minister In First Visit Since 2012
Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, arrived in Dhaka on Saturday for an official visit that Islamabad has described as a major step toward strengthening bilateral ties.
This marks the first official visit to Bangladesh by a Pakistani foreign minister in more than a decade. The last such visit took place in November 2012, when then–foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar traveled to Dhaka.
Relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have gradually improved following recent political changes in Dhaka and the fall of the previous government. Both nations have since been working to expand economic and diplomatic cooperation across multiple sectors.
During his stay, Dar is scheduled to hold talks with senior Bangladeshi officials, including interim leader Muhammad Yunus. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations, regional issues, and areas of international cooperation.
Bangladeshi foreign ministry officials said several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) are likely to be signed during the visit in fields such as trade, culture, media, education, and tourism.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's Ministry of Commerce announced that both countries are establishing a joint working group to enhance economic collaboration and boost trade opportunities.
The visit is being closely watched as a potential reset in Pakistan–Bangladesh relations, signaling a renewed push for deeper engagement in South Asia.
