Russia Continues to Collaborate with Scientists in West
(MENAFN) In a recent address to employees in Russia's nuclear industry, held in the city of Sarov, President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Russia has sustained collaboration with Western scientists despite the imposition of sanctions and the current political climate.
He underscored the idea that international scientific cooperation remains intact because it is founded on unity rather than separation or conflict.
According to him, scientific advancement has consistently depended on mutual efforts—even at the peak of the nuclear arms rivalry.
Putin highlighted that “science, like sports and art, is meant to unite people. It has always been this way, and it will always be this way. No one will be able to destroy the global scientific community.”
His comments reinforce the notion that science transcends political divides and retains its role as a unifying force across nations.
Since the escalation of the Ukraine conflict in 2022, the West has enforced wide-ranging punitive measures against Russia.
As a consequence, several previous collaborators ended their partnerships and withdrew from Russian territory.
Nevertheless, Putin mentioned that some joint initiatives—particularly in nuclear technology and space exploration—are still ongoing.
These include collaborations with both “friendly” states and some that align politically with Kiev.
He further remarked, “By the way, we don’t have unfriendly countries – only unfriendly elites in some... Yes, we’ve suffered in places where cooperation has ceased, especially in science, but work with scientists themselves continues.”
These remarks underline Russia’s continued engagement in scientific dialogue despite geopolitical strains, suggesting that professional collaboration can persist even when political ties are strained.
