Former partner claims Epstein didn’t kill himself

(MENAFN) Ghislaine Maxwell, Jeffrey Epstein’s former associate and partner, has stated she does not believe the financier and convicted sex offender died by suicide while in jail.

Maxwell, serving a 20-year sentence for trafficking women, including a minor, for Epstein, was interviewed by the Department of Justice last month amid renewed scrutiny of the case. In a transcript released Friday, she told investigators, “I do not believe he died by suicide, no,” but rejected the notion that an external party had ordered his death, suggesting instead that “if it is indeed murder, I believe it was an internal situation.”

When asked whether Epstein might have been targeted for possessing damaging information about powerful figures, Maxwell said she saw no reason to think so, calling the idea “ludicrous.” She also denied that Epstein engaged in blackmail or maintained a “client list” linked to sex trafficking.

Epstein died in 2019 while awaiting trial in a Manhattan jail. Allegations and conspiracy theories about his death, including claims of a “coverup,” have persisted, with some critics accusing former President Donald Trump of involvement, though he has denied these accusations, calling them a Democrat-led attempt to discredit him.
